Knowing whether a person normally votes in local elections is a powerful piece of information when we are targeting our communications, our door knocking, and our campaigning.
To do this we need to put our marked registers into Connect.
The marked register is a copy of the electoral roll that was used on polling day that shows who voted. Copies of the marked register are available for one year after all elections.
ALDC is working with local parties to make sure you don’t miss out on this valuable data.
Has your local party purchased your marked registers already but no one knows how to upload the data to Connect? Using the Registr software, ALDC makes the task of uploading your data as easy as possible for your local party.
The cost of this service is:
This works out at around £240 for an average sized Westminster Constituency. The pricing structure enables us to help you with smaller or larger areas much more easily – you just need to know how many electors are in the area you are applying for.
To ensure the process runs smoothly, we ask that you send the files from your Council first, and we will check that the software can read them. If this works, we will request payment from you and once payment has been received we will upload the data into Connect for you.
To sign up for the service, please complete this form – remember, you must have purchased your marked registers in advance.
Registr was developed by Lib Dem volunteers. If any Lib Dem members have software coding or management skills and wish to get involved in developing similar applications, please get in touch with us here.
The software we use for processing the marked registers is trained on ones that are produced by the Express system. The marked registers that other systems (predominately elector8 and Eros) generate would likely return results with lower accuracy: ~80% to ~90% as opposed to >95% for Express marked registers. We consider anything equal or over 97% to be satisfactory. You may ask your local authority as to which electoral system they use.
FAQs
Q. How accurate is the software?
A. Provided the files are of a high enough quality, the software we use is about 99% accurate. This is as good as a human volunteer – but so much quicker!
Q. What causes failure?
A. The biggest problem we face when it comes to using the Registr software is low quality PDF files from the local Council. When you request the files from the Council please ask that they are of the highest possible quality to ensure that the software can read them
Q. How quickly will the work be completed?
A. We aim to get the data uploaded into Connect within two weeks of the receipt of payment. Our Campaigns Organiser will do a weekly upload on a Friday morning.
