The LGA and ALDC are running the successful “Next Generation” programme for Liberal Democrat councillors during 2024/25.
‘Next Gen’ is a programme for talented and ambitious councillors who have demonstrated potential and would like to build on their skills to progress to a leadership role in their group and council.
The deadline for applications to Next Gen is on Friday 30 August 2024. Apply now and don’t miss out.
The programme will consist of three training modules, two in person and one online. The modules aim to:
- raise awareness of the different styles and approaches to political leadership
- help participants understand a distinctive Liberal Democrat approach to policy and governance
- enable participants to define their ‘vision’ for their council/ward/group
- increase confidence and awareness of the importance of communication and media skills
- help participants know more about their own personal strengths and weaknesses as a community and political leader
- develop participants’ understanding of the practical strategies to policy-making and best practice in Liberal Democrat groups and councils.
The module dates are below and applicants MUST commit to attending all of the dates:
- Module 1: In Person Study Visit – 7-9 October 2024
- Module 2: Online Meet and Greet Day – Tuesday 10 December 2024
- Module 3: In Person Reflection Weekend – 31 January – 2 February 2025
- LGA Conference 2025 – 1-3 July 2025 (Liverpool)
