ALDC has a Council Group Toolkit to help you organise your group’s business.
Group AGMs
At this time of year most groups will need to organise their AGM – prior to an Annual Council Meeting in May or June.
The Model Group Standing Orders can be download by ALDC members. These include a run through of how you should organise your Group AGM.
No Overall Control (NOC) situations
If you have local elections in May the balance of your council may change as a result. This could be because you have a great night and gain lots of new Lib Dem councillors. Or the the ruling group could have a bad night and lose enough of their councillors (not necessarily to the the Lib Dems) meaning that no party has enough seats to form an administration.
In these No Overall Control situations your Lib Dem group can become influential and have the potential to be part of a new administration. You will receive advice from the LGA Lib Dem group and from ALDC in these circumstances.
An advice article on dealing with NOC situations can be found here.
You can contact Tim Pickstone on tim.pickstone@aldc.org for advice after the election if you find yourself in a no overall situation.
The Council Group Toolkit also has advice on councillor training and management, tithings, group bank accounts and more.
Group Membership of ALDC
If you do not have Group Membership of ALDC you can sign up here.
Group membership will get all councillors in your group a discount on their ALDC membership, free facilitators for group development days, specialist advice (including legal advice) and half price membership for council candidates.
Most Lib Dem council groups have group membership of ALDC due to extensive extra benefits it brings. If your group does not you can call us on 0161 302 7532 or email jake.austin@aldc.org to find out more.
