We have really enjoyed thanking and celebrating ALDC’s volunteers this week.
This is your gentle reminder to make sure you thank YOUR volunteers! If you have just been involved in local elections, a summer garden party is a great opportunity to bring people together – volunteers are part of your team!
We have put together a pack with everything that you could need to support your volunteers. You can find it here.
A thank you card means a lot and is much more personal than an email. A note attached to the bundle of leaflets that you drop off will show how much you appreciate the time they are giving to you.
Making sure your volunteers understand what their contribution means to the wider goal and team will make them feel valued. Giving them this context avoids them feeling what they are doing is pointless and will inspire them to keep going!
Don’t just assume people know what you are talking about when you say ‘bundle these leaflets’. They will need to be shown what you mean when you ask them to do a task and understand why it is important.
It could be the deliverer you recruit today, is the council leader you elect tomorrow!
And above all, make it fun. People give up their time to volunteer for things that they believe in. But will keep volunteering because they enjoy it.
