Small Business Saturday is coming up on Saturday 2 December 2023. The UK event started in 2013 and has grown in popularity every year.
Below are some simple Council Motions you could move – one before and one after the event – to encourage your Council to promote Small Business Saturday and continue to support small businesses throughout the year.
Before Small Business Saturday;
Council notes that Small Business Saturday 2023 is coming up on December 2rd. Small Business Saturday has grown into a significant event – with over £1 billion spent at small businesses on this day alone in recent years.
Council recognises that this is an excellent opportunity to promote small businesses in AREA NAME and to celebrate the contribution smaller businesses make to our town.
Small Businesses are the heart and soul of our local high streets. They help give AREA NAME its unique character and employ thousands of local people. It is only by supporting our local independent businesses that we can also help our local high streets thrive.
Council resolves to:
(a) Instruct the Chief Executive and Heads of Service to ensure that the Council participates fully in Small Business Saturday on 2nd December 2023.
(b) Request that officers work closely with local business organisations and smaller enterprises across AREA NAME to make them aware of the day and encourage them to sign up.
(c) Ensure that Small Business Saturday is promoted thoroughly and prominently on the Council’s website, social media channels and other external communications.
(d) Develop a year round communications plan to continue promoting local small businesses and encouraging residents in AREA NAME to shop small and shop local all year round.
(e) Investigate further ways to increase shopper numbers around Small Business Saturday and in the lead up to Christmas – such as free car parking in the town centre on busy shopping days – and establish a regular programme of measures to support small businesses.
After Small Business Saturday;
Council notes the success of Small Business Saturday that was held on December 2nd 2023, and thanks all local people and businesses that took part.
Council recognises that it is important to continue supporting and promoting small businesses in AREA NAME, and encourage people to shop local all year round.
