Liberal Democrat Survey on Special Educational Needs

Dear Colleagues,

The Liberal Democrat parliamentary education team with the LGA group are running a survey on the provision of services for children with Special Educational Needs and Disability. This is a slightly re-worded version of the survey sent this summer as we did not get enough submissions to gain significant insight.

We are still very concerned that cuts to school, Local Authority and Health budgets are leading to significant reductions in the education and care available to children with SEND.  We would be enormously grateful if councillors from around the country would be willing to send the letter below, with its link to the survey, to Head Teachers, Chairs of Governors and Special Needs Co-ordinators in your area so we can get as many responses to the survey as possible. A template letter is attached which you may find helpful.

Please also fill in the survey yourselves if you feel able to: https://digitallibdems.typeform.com/to/Kj2fFk

If you would like any more information about the survey or the work we are doing on SEND funding and provision please email Lucy Nethsingha at lucynethsingha@icloud.com.

It would be helpful if the letter could go to teachers and schools as soon as possible and certainly before the end of term, which is in a couple of weeks, as the deadline for completing the survey is 15 December 2018.

Thank you all for your help!

Lucy Nethsingha

LGA Lead Member on CYP Board

Very good to see this. Here in Wiltshire the Council are proposing to build a mega school in a rural area of North Wiltshire for ALL children with SENDs, closing two popular schools for children with severe learning disabilities where the pupils are well included in local towns. This is institutionalisation by another name.
