Mayor Dave Hodgson and Liberal Democrat-led Bedford Borough Council have been working hard to make sure that people in hospital get the social care package they need back in the community.
The Delayed Transfer of Care (DTOC) figure attributable to Bedford Borough Council’s social care in 2017/18 was 33 for the whole year, which is just 1% of the delays in the whole system locally. There have been 10 months since Nov 2016 where the month-end figure was ‘0’ i.e. no delays attributable to Bedford Borough Social Care. We have stayed below 10 DTOC since July 2017 to date. Regionally, Bedford Borough was ranked first out of 11. Provisional national figures (based on published data) suggest that Bedford Borough Council was ranked first nationally for the number of DTOC attributed to social care.
This level of performance has been down to hard work seven days a week to maintain their highest standards and to facilitate safe and timely discharges home for their most vulnerable residents. This has in turn had a positive impact across the whole system. Bedford are also vigilant in assuring the DTOC systems do not require further escalation and any delays agreed for social care only occur after close scrutiny and Quality Assurance.
