Commenting following the release of candidate numbers for the 2018 local elections, Councillor Howard Sykes MBE, Leader of the LGA Liberal Democrat Group, said:
“New figures just released show that in this May’s elections the Liberal Democrats will be contesting a greater proportion of council seats than the last time they were fought in 2014.
“We are fighting across 75% of council seats, an increase of nearly six percent, compared to when these seats last fought in 2014. That means more communities having the chance to vote for and be represented by Liberal Democrats.
“Combined with the fact that the Liberal Democrats have seen a net gain of 17 council seats since June 2017, this shows that our party is very slowly building up a strong grassroots presence right across the country.”
