Following the sudden resignation of the conservative councillor, Perth Lib Dems are fighting to win the by-election on Thursday 23 November. Perth City South is represented by ALDC stalwart Willie Wilson, who topped the poll in May with 35% of the vote.
The local Lib Dems have selected local campaigner, Liz Barrett, and campaigning has started at a furious pace with two Focus and a postal voters target letter already delivered. Over a 1,000 doors have been knocked over the weekend and the team are going all out to win. Liz and Willie will form a strong team for Perth South in what is a straight choice between Liz as a hardworking local champion or another SNP cheerleader for independence.
Liz said: “I am out knocking on doors every day and the level of support from across Scotland has been superb. I’ve had campaigners from Aberdeen, Inverness, Inverurie, North East Fife, East Lothian, Aberdeenshire and even Brussels so far. ”
Campaign manager, and former ALDC development officer for Scotland, Peter Barrett said: “This is the first winnable by-election we have had in Perth and Kinross for 17 years. Willie’s tremendous result at the May elections puts us in pole position with the SNP second. It’s a straight choice between Liz for the Lib Dems or yet another nationalist, but the Conservatives aren’t lying down so we need all the support we can get from all over Scotland.”
The campaign has established a virtual campaign HQ and Facebook page (please like). If you can help, call liz on 07966 171680 or email peter.barrett@blueyonder.co.uk.
