Responding to a report by the MPs’ Education Committee that teacher shortages in England are getting worse, Liberal Democrat Children and Young People’s Spokesperson, Cllr Liz Green, said:
“The wellbeing of our teachers is fundamental to a child’s education. The government must address the growing number of teachers leaving the profession struggling with a poor work-life balance and make our schools work both for pupils and teaching staff.
Undervalued and overworked – increasing wages would be a good start, however workloads must also be reduced outside of classroom hours to make the career fulfilling again.”

- Analysis by the TUC has found school teachers face a real-terms salary cut of over £3,000 by the end of the decade if the government sticks to its current pay cap and inflation is as forecast (link).
