Each year, ALDC recognises the outstanding work of local Focus teams through our Campaigner Awards and ythe voting is now open to select your best Focus teams from across the UK.
The Campaigner Awards are presented at the ALDC AGM at Federal Conference. Winners in each category and our Overall Winner will receive cash prizes and a signed and framed certificate for their office!
This year, after shortlisting, we have opened the vote to you! We want members of the party to have a say in this year’s winners for Best Fighback award.
Whether you have overcome the odds of the last few sets of elections or are rebuilding your local party, we want to hear about your successes. Let us know how you are putting the fightback into action.
The nominations are :
Knowsley –
This had been a bit of a black hole in recent years. They went from not winning any seats since 2008 to winning three seats in one go due to hard work and dedication of members.
Liverpool –
We put in place a strategy to identify a number of different wards where we could hold and finish a strong second – not just spread our resources too thinly across the city. We decided that a huge door-knocking effort would be to key to success alongside lots of hard hitting leaflets. The result was holding on to Richard Kemp CBE with an increased majority and a good result in our target wards going forward.
A year on, nearly 11,000 doors knocked and hundreds of thousands of leaflets delivered we have reaped the rewards of our strategy. Richard Kemp secured 21.1% of the Mayoral vote (up from 6% previously), finishing second and cutting into the ‘gutter politics’ Labour Mayor’s vote, and finishing well above the Greens. In the City Council elections we gained Woolton, Allerton and Hunts Cross from Labour and held on to Church Ward (the ward we held on with Richard in 2015) with a 1,400+ majority.
Manchester Withington –
With a Conservative majority Government and a Labour one party state we arguably had one of the most difficult challenges to overcome. Through a mix of new and exciting mediums as well as rational ground campaigning, we ran an enthusiastic and engaging campaign that reflected the former MP’s prolific record.
Thanks to John’s dedication we managed to break Labour’s grip on the town hall and on the 5th May, John Leech stormed to victory with 53% of the vote, and a 702 majority, signifying the first win for any party other than Labour for the first time in six years, and providing Manchester’s first opposition for two years.
