As the Lead Lib Dem Spokesperson on the LGA’s Children and Young People Board, I have seen the academies controversy playing out at the top of local government, and am fighting for a positive role for local government – I believe we must continue to have oversight of our council maintained schools.
But I need to hear from YOU – grassroots, Liberal Democrat campaigners and councillors – as we continue to take stock and work out the right approach to the changes being made to our education system.
I’ll be discussing this issue in depth at the Lib Dem Local Government Conference on Saturday 18th June in Birmingham, and I want as many Liberal Democrats with an interest in education as possible to join the conversation.
Please book your tickets for this year’s conference via the ALDC website, and join me for the policy session “Academies – what’s the Lib Dem approach?” at 2pm on Saturday.
I hope to see you there,
Liz
