With the European election controlled period just starting many of us have been madly getting our pre-Euro Election literature out before the deadline! Calendars and Focuses have been flying out of the door.
What that also means is that many of us are artworking the next tranche!
So we thought it was wise to reiterate the things you should check in your communications for before publishing.
Here’s our Communication Control Checklist
- Spelling and grammar – a good regular job for less mobile members perhaps?
- Language – make sure that sentences are short. Don’t use jargon or long words. It’s not your job to explain council procedures and processes. Get the message across!
- Check that the stories, languages, captions, headlines and photographs conform to your Message Grid
- Imprints – make sure that you a) you have an imprint and b) that it is the correct one!
- Use a disclaimer for data protection, if you are asking for feedback eg grumble sheets, surveys and petitions etc.
- If you have an agent, have they given it the OK?
- Check for defamation and libel
- Check email addresses, freepost addresses and phone numbers are right and current.
