Don’t get caught out by the new Nomination Requirements

There has been a change in guidance from the electoral commission and new standard nomination form:

“ a candidate must return the entire consent to nomination form which includes copies of the relevant legislation by the close of nominations for their nomination to be valid”

from Summary of changes to our guidance for local elections in England and Wales in 2013,Candidates and agents guidance (principal area, parish & community council and mayoral elections)

In the standard Electoral commission forms that many councils use, this is the 5 pages of A4 following the single A4 consent form. All 6 pages need to be returned. ALDC thinks this is frankly silly, but the last thing we all want is Lib Dem candidates being disqualified over a technicality. Make sure it does not happen to you.

The Electoral Commission have updated their standard forms to make it a bit clearer that all the pages are required. See the attached link for their updated version.
