Local Elections 2012 - Tell us what you think!

Monday 14 May 2012 12:00

image courtesy of Howard LakePlease help us learn and improve from the 2012 local election results by taking our short online survey. We know how much everyone hates long surveys, so its deliberately short, but if you want to write more then there is space to do so.

The survey has TWO aims:

  • to assess how the support and help provided by ALDC and the rest of the Party was helpful to candidates and campaigners, and to see how this can be improved.
  • to ask you what you think worked or did not work in the election campaign

We will use the aggregated information to inform the work of ALDC and the rest of the party, but otherwise your comments are anonymous and will not be attributed.

TAKE THE SURVEY NOW

Thank you for your help.

Membership - Two brilliant deals

Wednesday 02 May 2012 14:27

Calling all councillors elected on 3rd May! We have two great discounts for ALDC membership.

1. New Councillors' Discount
All Lib Dem Councillors elected this year will be able to join ALDC in their first year for HALF PRICE! As all of us know their first months as a Councillor are important. We want to make sure as many of our Councillors benefit from the advice and support that ALDC offer from Day 1.  This makes ALDC membership only 78p a week!

The new offer is only available until the end of July 2012 - after that it's back up to the normal rate.  So don't miss out!

The deal is available to all newly elected Liberal Democrat councillors and this year for the first time - to all councillors who successfuly defended their seats (who were not previously ALDC members).  It's only available by direct debit - but can be paid monthly, quarterly or annually.

Join online, with no paperwork today!

2. Group Membership Benefits
Most successful Liberal Democrat Groups are already in Group Membership of ALDC. This is where a whole Council Group joins ALDC together, very often this is part of what Councillors receive in return for their "Group Subs".

If that doesn't include you - then your Group AGM is normally a good time to bring this up! This could either be a discussion at the AGM, or getting the group to agree to consider the issue at its next meeting.

- Group Members receive 12% off all membership rates
- Free places at the Local Government Conference (buy 2 get a 3rd free)
- Free ALDC membership for your Group Researcher / Political Assistant
- We'll supply a free experienced facilitator to your Group Away Day once a year.

If you think your group might be interested, we can prepare you a personalised quote for your group - please contact our Members' Services Officer, Emma Hall on 01422 843 785 or email emma.hall@aldc.org An FAQ sheet is available here

Discounts can be used together - so if you have newly elected Councillors in your group then they get both discounts added together!

ALDC Election Results Service

Monday 30 April 2012 13:31

ALDC will again provide an election results service showing the total number of seats won for each party by council and the change in those seats whether that's plus or minus.  You can find our Election Results Service in the Local Elections section of our website.

We largely collate this information by using council websites as they usually publish the results as they happen, although this is by no means consistent.  The counts are also split between Thursday night and anytime on Friday until well in to the evening.  However, if you are able to help us out with information from your count this is what we need to know:

  • The total number of seats won on the night by each party in a council area (we don't need to know individual ward results at this stage).
  • Any interesting stories e.g. high profile councillors defeated (both ours and the opposition's), interesting Lib Dem candidates elected,
  • Wards won by us this year that we failed to win last year.

You can send us this information by emailing us at info@aldc.org, by posting in our Facebook group or by tweeting us.

New-Look ALDC Facebook Group

Wednesday 04 April 2012 15:23

We have recently made substantial changes to the ALDC Facebook group.

The group has now become closed, meaning that non-members have been removed and only ALDC members will be permitted to join from here on. The group will become a secure online space for our members to discuss strategy, tactics, and campaign stories with ALDC officers and each other.

We would like to see as many members as possible take part. Simply log into Facebook, look up 'Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors', and join the conversation!
